Oct 26, 1966 • 2h 53m • War, Drama, History
"Burn Paris!" was the order that had come shrieking over the phone.
Overview
Near the end of World War II, Gen. Dietrich von Choltitz receives orders to burn down Paris if it becomes clear the Allies are going to invade, or if he cannot maintain control of the city. After much contemplation Choltitz decides to ignore his orders, enraging the Germans and giving hope to various resistance factions that the city will be liberated. Choltitz, along with Swedish diplomat Raoul Nordling, helps a resistance leader organize his forces.

Note from Encoder
This is the Kino Lorber release of Is Paris Burning? (1966) — original title: Paris brûle-t-il ?. This edition features a new 4K restoration sourced from the original camera negative, undertaken by Paramount Pictures in association with American Zoetrope and Francis Ford Coppola.
Audio is included in both English and French, presented in DD+. The release also contains an audio commentary by film historians Daniel Kremer and Howard S. Berger, providing historical context, production background, and insight into the film’s large international cast. There were no additional extras on the disc.
A lesser-known detail: the film was shot extensively on real Paris locations less than twenty years after the events depicted, and several performers had firsthand experience with the resistance or military operations portrayed, lending the film an added layer of authenticity.
Enjoy this restored classic war epic! Merry Christmas!
