Description:

To avoid running into problems playing any of our releases, please use mpv! Get the most up-to-date subs for this project here. This release includes two sub tracks: default “eng” with no honorifics (Hana), and “enm” with honorifics (Hana-chan). Please set your media player preferences accordingly. Comparison between the YouTube Premium, Xiaohongshu, and the encode Original translation of the animated special released on Pokémon Day 2025. This encode is a quick and dirty attempt at de-hardsubbing the Xiaohongshu/Rednote rip. Our goals were to preserve the detail from the high-bitrate web-DL, correct the framerate by decimating the duplicate frames, and mask out all the Chinese text. Here’s a longer cherrypicked comparison between YouTube Premium (which we used for the v0 release on Pokémon Day) and the encode to show the highs and the lows. Frames that didn’t have hardsubs are (logically) uncompromised, de-hardsubbed frames in bright scenes (or other scenes that didn’t compress that badly on YouTube) generally don’t stand out, de-hardsubbed frames in dark or grainy scenes (or other scenes that compressed badly on YouTube) don’t look as seamless (though at least in practice the English subs help cover it up a little), and the credits suffer the most. We didn’t mess with artificial grain for the credits. Those of us who worked on this are not encoders and we were bound to mess it up if we didn’t keep it simple. If anyone wants to make a more definitive encode, please let us know! The subs received some additional QC. Audio is from YouTube and it’s the same as in the v0. We trimmed out the Pokémon Presents ad/end card, but here it is (losslessly split out from the YouTube Premium rip) with the typesetting from the v0, for anyone who wants it.
