Translation: bluesun Editing, Timing, Typesetting: Toa of Gallifrey This is a Chinese short that came out for Earth Day, with a Japanese dub following along a few months later in July. We don’t have the staff to sub Chinese content, but we decided to sub the Japanese dub when it came out (and then I forgot about it and left it 90% complete for months…) so that people could watch the short with a translation that wasn’t MTL/AI. The Japanese dub seems to be pretty literal, it has kind of stilted phrasing and vocabulary. We represented that as sensibly as we could in our translation. The highest quality source for this short is Xiaohongshu/Douyin (exactly the same video on both platforms), which has the Chinese logo and Chinese credits but it’s hardsubbed. The most usable source for de-hardsubbing is YouTube Premium for the Japanese dub, which has frame-blending in some scenes and at least one scene with animation changes. We decided that it was too much of a headache to try and put together a decent dual audio release, and since we were only subbing the Japanese dub anyway, we opted to release untouched Chinese and Japanese web-DLs. We don’t intend to sub the Japanese dubs of any more of these Chinese shorts.
