Deep Purple: Made In Japan
Apr 30, 1972 • 1h 0m • Music
Overview
Made in Japan was recorded live over three nights during 15–17 August 1972 at Festival Hall, Osaka and at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan. Four of the tracks come from the album Machine Head which had been released earlier that year. The album was at first seen as somewhat unimportant by the band members, and only Roger Glover and Ian Paice showed up to mix it. The release in the US was delayed, until April 1973, because Warner Bros. wanted to release Who Do We Think We Are first. The three concerts recorded were later released as Live in Japan 3-CD box set (1993). According to the liner notes for that set, unlike many live albums, there are no overdubs or studio additions to the original album.
Director: Ian Carmichael
Cast: Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Ian Paice

Live at Long Beach is a live album by the British band Deep Purple featuring the MKIV lineup performing at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California, on 27 February 1976, as part of the Come Taste the Band tour.
It was originally released in 1995. In the US, it was titled King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents: Deep Purple in Concert, and in the UK and Japan, it was titled On the Wings of a Russian Foxbat [there is a difference in both content and mastering]. A ten-track version was released in 2000 under the title Extended Versions. The concert was restored and re-released in 2009.
The performance was recorded by the radio program King Biscuit Flower Hour. The performance is considered one of the best concerts by the Coverdale–Bolin–Hughes–Lord–Pace lineup. The recording is supplemented by a segment from a performance in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, a month earlier - King Biscuit had originally planned to air the Springfield performance, but the recording was of poor quality. Note that the track listing for CD 1 lists "The Grind" as being performed - this is incorrect, as it is Bolin's "Homeward Strut" from his solo album Teaser
