Notes / Description
I didn’t plan on making this but after messing around with it I thought doing this would be easy enough so fuck it, here it is
Video -
The reason this is called a color-fix and not a color-correction is that I admittedly kinda vibe graded the whole thing since there was barely any references to use for this film. Comparing with the available ones I think I got my grade close enough but just for safety I’m calling it a fix rather than a correction. The base video was scoot’s encode of the JPDVD as it got rid of the DVD’s most obnoxious issues. We considered using his VS script to re-encode the raw ourselves however it came up too late in the process so we just went with his encode. Our resulting encode turned out to be quite good so quality shouldn’t be an issue. All color work was done in DaVinci Resolve. Comparison Pics
Audio -
JP audio & M&E were taken from the JPDVD as they were at the ridiculously high bit-rate of 448kbps. ENG audio was taken from AnimeEigo’s original DVD as Discotek’s DVD compressed the shit out of the dub. Do note that the music on the M&E and the M&E on the dub track are strangely out of sync with the JP track, this was not our doing and both sources had this issue. The dub also has weird audio glitches inherent to itself, I was able to patch one of them but the others are left unpatched as they were rather infrequent and not possible to patch.
Subtitles -
A lot of work was done on the subtitles by kneelack with typesetting by ZeBenko. So much so that kneelack felt it was necessary to make liner notes PDF, you can read that for info on the changes he made
TLDR from kneelack:
Subs have been thoroughly touched up using sources from the official AnimEigo subs, scoot’s release, and the Japanese closed captions. The results are what I consider the best English subtitle for the movie, fixing errors from the original that have persisted since its original release. You can consult my attached liner notes for the notes on the subtitles, if you’d like a read into my decisions.
We hope you enjoy our work that we put into this, It took us quite a while.
If you have any issues with the release, contact me on Twitter (@theizzyshow_) or Discord (@izzyzilla2000)
