To all those doubting the Accelerated Dragon’s viability against White’s most challenging variation - the Maroczy Bind (e4-c4 setup) - FM Plichta has a convincing remedy in store.
With the seemingly odd 6...Qb6 against the standard 6.Be3, you’ll put immediate pressure on White’s queenside, resulting in lines where White simply won’t have time to finish the bind. The database results back it up, too: White’s best attempt is reduced to no more than a 50-50 equal shot with the course’s recommended lines!
And you’re in for even more fun against the Classical Variation (Be2). In the main line where White plays exd5 after your early ...d5, you’ll play ...Nb4 to recoup the pawn- a tricky variation White has gotten wrong 80% of the time in the database.
White moving their bishop to c4 is no better - in this variation too, as in all of them, FM Plichta has done his homework with the databases and engines and has found alternative yet solid approaches with winning results.
