SteamWorld Build takes us to the world known from previous installments of the series, with the story shown in the game taking place long before the events known from SteamWorld Heist. The main characters are a pair of steam robots - a father and his little daughter - who come to an abandoned location to find ancient artifacts.
For them, it is not a matter of hobby or income. After the events of SteamWorld Dig 2, the entire planet will soon explode, and without the forgotten technology, the inhabitants will not be able to escape into space. Therefore, the father, daughter and the robots accompanying them do not waste time and after arriving at the site, they start digging.
