Description:

Textbook in PDF format The book will cover the latest advances in the development of optical form and coordinate metrology instruments and the recent ISO framework on their performance verification. Latest advances discussed will include the drive towards faster instruments for in-process applications, the ability to measure highly complex shapes (in, for example, additive manufacturing), advances in the use of artificial intelligence to enhance data analysis and the push towards calibration. Surface form and coordinate measurement is essential and ubiquitous in many industries, from manufacturing to automotive and aereospace and cultural heritage applications. However, in this book we focus our dialogue and applications on manufacturing. The dimensions of an object are often the most critical features when considering manufacturing tolerances, assembly with other parts and ultimately the functionality of the object. In addition, the range and complexity of shapes being manufactured has recently increased significantly as the adoption of additive manufacturing is embraced more widely. Shape measurement in manufacturing is often carried out using contact probing, which is slow, requires contact, and produces small data sets (or minimal surface coverage).
