[Orphan] Animated Classics of Japanese Literature E01 - The Izu Dancer (DVD)

Orphan is redoing as many of the stories from the 1986 anthology series Seishun Anime Zenshuu (translated as Animated Classics of Japanese Literature for its English release) as we can find sources for, starting with the twelve episodes released in North America on DVD. We’ll be releasing the show as individual stories; the first is The Izu Dancer, adapted from a novella by Kawabata Yasurani. It’s a simple tale about a traveling student, Mizushima, who encounters a troupe of traveling entertainers in Izu and is smitten with the youngest daughter, a dancing girl named Kaoru. He accompanies the family, and her, for a while, but eventually, he must return to his student life in Tokyo, while she remains bound to her station by her lowly social status.
