Comparison: Universal Studios (EUR BD 2015), Criterion Collection (USA UHD 2025) The UHD's mono track rolled off a few high frequencies that the 2018 BD didn't, so the 2018 BD mono track was used. The surround remix on both the UHD and 2018 Criterion releases have a blank LFE channel and a much louder center channel. The 2015 EUR BD's surround remix has the center channel levels much closer to the left, right, and surround channels while also having an active LFE channel. The 2008 PAL DVD surround remix has the same LFE (minus the extended frequencies present on all the BD tracks) so the track with LFE was preferred. I also personally prefer having the surround mix have less "dialogue emphasis" through a quieter center channel as the mono track already has crisp and clear dialogue. Commentary sounds the same between all releases and has largely identical specs amongst them so the UHD's mono track (matching the mono recording) was preferred. Audio comparison: mono, surround The Criterion UHD subtitles are too bright at 74% white (#bdbdbd), so they were tonemapped to a more conservative 60% white (#9a9a9a). Subtitles from all discs were tonemapped to match. Alternate subtitles were included were there were significant differences throughout with the non-alternate subtitles matching the PGS. The 30th anniversary BD trivia track, rendered by Java, was recreated from the original graphic elements and packaged as a PGS subtitle (tonemapped for HDR).
