The group initially gained fame for performing theme songs for The Garden of Sinners, and later expanded its repertoire to include many other compositions for anime series and films. Unfortunately, in March 2019, the group officially disbanded after Yuki Kajiura parted ways with the agency in February 2018 and the subsequent departure of the members. However, on 3 October 2024, the members announced their reunion for the concert ‘Kalafina Anniversary LIVE 2025’. This was their first live performance together in seven years. The concert took place on 15 January 2025 at the Tokyo Garden Theater. The musical director of this grand event was Satoshi Takebe, known for his work with popular J-Pop artists, which indicates a possible change in musical direction compared to Yuki Kajiura’s previous participation. Kajiura herself stated that she was not involved in the preparation of the concert and did not know about it in advance.
