To protect it, Mayor Kepler has hired bounty hunters. These hunters have been following Gasback from town to town in hopes of getting the bounty. Vash the Stampede is in town, along with Meryl and Milly, along with the female bounty hunter Amelia and Nicholas D. Wolfwood. Plot (IT): In un flashback viene raccontato cosa era accaduto 20 anni prima. Gasback, un fuorilegge corpulento e senza scrupoli, viene tradito dai suoi stessi complici (Caine, Mechio e Dorino) a rapina ultimata. Proprio nel momento in cui rischia di essere assassinato dai suoi uomini, viene salvato da Vash the Stampede, che come al solito vuole evitare che chiunque, anche tra i criminali più spietati, perda la vita. Il salvataggio però pesa fortemente sul nostro eroe, poiché in seguito Gasback diviene la causa di innumerevoli vittime. Dopo 20 anni sulla testa di Gasback pende una taglia altissima, il cui compenso fa gola a molti cacciatori di taglie, tra cui Amelia, cowgirl ed abile pistolera. In viaggio su una nave del deserto, Amelia viene salvata da due assalitori proprio dal tifone umanoide.
