Concerned over Godzilla's possible return, the Japanese government uses the cells to create a new bio-weapon, ANEB (Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria). They seeks the aid of geneticist Genshiro Shiragami, who's experiments result in a new mutation.

Description:

Godzilla vs Biollante (1989) aka Gojira tai Biorante, directed by Kazuki Ōmori, Criterion Collection 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including Japanese 5.1 remaster, original Japanese theatrical 4.0, original Japanese Dolby Stereo, English dual mono dub, two commentary tracks, and subtitles in Japanese and English. IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097444/ Video encoded in two-pass 15.0 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. Audio encoded separately with Apple AAC for the highest-quality AAC sound available. Text subtitles converted to SRT, image subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned. Note : Here's a later Godzilla film, from the peak of the practical effects era, and it's pretty great, with a fun story moving at a good clip, some excellent creature design, and a mixture of miniature work, optical effects, matte paintings, and forced perspective that makes every frame seem exciting. Stars Kunihiko Mitamura, Yoshiko Tanaka, Masanobu Takashima, Kōji Takahashi, Toru Minegishi, Megumi Odaka, and Toshiyuki Nagashima, as well as some Americans hamming it up, and "Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria". After Godzilla's latest attack, people all over are experimenting on samples of Godzilla's cells. One such group is a science institute in the oil-producing desert country of Saradia, where Godzilla's DNA is merged with that of plants to create an organism that's supposed to turn the deserts into fertile land. However, a terrorist attack destroys the lab, killing the daughter of Japanese scientist Dr. Shiragami. Five years later, Shiragami, now in Japan, has merged his dead daughter's DNA with that of roses, her favorite flowers, hoping to preserve some of her essence. Other scientists of the Japanese armed forces are creating a bacteria that should work against Godzilla, should he return. An American corporation is also after the Godzilla cells. The Americans threaten to unleash Godzilla unless they're given access to cell samples, while Saradian agents are also after them, but a mysterious new creature, dubbed "Biollante", emerges from Shiragami's experiments, and all hell breaks loose, as Godzilla might be humanity's only hope. This is a quite nice 4k remaster, with nice understated color and contrast, fine grain, and good detail. The various soundtracks all sound good too, and both commentary tracks are interesting.
