番組内容
春を迎える頃、京都の様々な寺院では、釈迦が亡くなる場面を描いた「涅槃図」を掲げて、釈迦を偲ぶ「涅槃会」が行われる。今回は、日本でも有数の大涅槃図が公開される三ヶ寺をめぐる。紅葉の名所で名高い東福寺では、画僧・明兆が腕をふるう一幅を、皇室ゆかりの泉涌寺では、立体的な「コ」の字型が味わえる。長谷川等伯ゆかりの本法寺では、等伯が最愛の息子の七回忌法要に合わせた渾身の作が見られる。京都に春を告げる風物詩「涅槃会」を通して、釈迦の教えに触れる。
